K, the problem is that I'm ALWAYS tired. I wake up at 6 am, go to school and when I come home at around 1-5 pm I'm so tired I'm close to passing out. I can barely keep my eyes open and not even drinking coffee etc helps. This happens even if I've only had 3 hours of classes and I shouldn't be physically tired. My mom says it's just puberty, but how come it has never been like this before? Btw, I've tried going to bed at 10 pm, 11 pm and 12 pm and no difference. Oh, and:

How much sleep do you get each night? Go to bed at 10 PM for an optimal 8 hours, eat foods that aren't high in sugar, etc... |

Your mother is probably right, it's a plausible explanation. Many things in puberty just happen to hit you by surprise. You're 16, right? This might be your final growth spurt, a possible explanation for your sudden fatigue. If you're concerned, contact a GP. |

GP? Yea, I thought it was puberty too but I'm not so sure anymore. I only eat healthy food (much vegetables) and walk at least 2-4 kilometres each day. I also have gastritis (since I was about 13) and constant headache (since last summer), not that I think it matters. My asthma is also getting worse (mostly because of that my mom has started smoking >_>) and I can't be in a kitchen while we're frying anything (I feel nauseous and have to throw up). Damn, writing all this makes it sound like I'm a cripple or sumthing >_< |

Its possible that you have a sleeping dis-order such as sleep appnea(SP?) But I somehow doubt that anyone here at PM has the ability to correctly diagnose your problem...>_> Unless Sammy decides to speak directly to you....he could heal you. |

You do make sure you get plenty of protein, right? It would fit, and I don't want to make you worried but it's possible you could be hypoglycemic, but that's unlikely and very treatable, but I think you should definitely see your GP and make sure you get enough protein, carbohydrates and stuff. |

ONE OF THE ORIGINAL FUCKS
|
BTW, the first part of this post i'm just stormbraining some ideas. The second part I'll try to sum it up for you. This should go without saying but in any case I'll just put it out: just use this as a refference to get an idea of what might be going on with your problem. Anything from this point on can be either true or false, solely depending on how your own body functioning and your own lifestyle habits. ______ First part
You might want to get check with a doctor since what you might have is a problem with your endocrine system (it releases the hormones your body needs). something here may be altered (there's a hormone that once released it has the power to make you feel drowsy, that's supposedly to be released when you go to sleep, can't remember the name, but it might be that).
Your mother might be right, also. There are many things that come into effect for this situation (including sleep time, where do you sleep, how do you sleep, life habits, meals, your own body's way to work and more). Teens are more bound to be of a night crowd (I mean, their lifestyle should be based on activities during the evening and the night, and not the morning). They're also supposed to get more than 8 hours of 'quality sleep' (it's actually 9 hours of nondisturbed sleep reaching at least 4 or 5 REM periods).
It could be puberty if you've reached it in a late time (since most women reach it in their 13's or 14's), or maybe your body has halted all the changes up to the last days/months. What do you include in 'Healthy food'? It should include meat (including chicken), cereals (cookies, bread, cornflake, rice), fruit, vegetables (I'm not so sure of this but they say 5 vegetables/fruits a day is beneficial for everyone). Walking should improve your 'tiresome' state eventually (I'm assuming you've been doing this for a long time).
Are you taking any medicines for gastritis? Have you checked your headaches in any medical center? ____ Second part: Well, obviously if you feel that you're feeling pretty much tired you should get checked by a doctor (especially after you say it's getting in the way of your life). There are many reasons why people in general, should feel tired. Too much work, emotional trouble, bad habits (not eating what they should, not sleeping enough time), depression or anything that can stress you, too much excersise, viral infections (or any kind of infections to be honest), problems with the endocrine system, any side effects from medicines and many more. From what I've read you're leading a good lifestyle (don't smoke, eat properly, excersising and I'm guessing not too much alcohol or any drugs), so I really doubt it has to do with anything you do. It may regard to your own body (as having hypothyroidism, but I don't think you're also petite, fat and always cold). My first guess is that there might be a hormone problem that alters your sleep time (sleep apnea i think it's called, but I ain't sure about the name), so that you need more rest than what more of the people do. But since you state that you're always tired, there might be more to it, since it's normal to be tired during the next few minutes after waking up, but after some time your energies should be back to a normal state. Your condition might not be from hormone problems but maybe other internal issues. Maybe your heartbeat is slow which results in your own body not wanting to do more stuff (since your heart cells might need more Oxygen that you can't manage to give them) but since you say you walk everyday and eat properly, I don't think this one might be the problem. One thing that would be important to notice (at least in my point of view) is the fact that you have gastritis, you suffer from headaches and that you're a woman (let me explain this before you tell me I'm saying being woman is wrong). I'm assuming you aren't taking any medicines for your gastritis, if you are you could ignore this part. Gastritis is a digestive problem that basicly hurts your own stomach because of either: too much HCl (in english I think it's called chlorhydric acid), not enough barrier in your stomach cells (it's some kind of mucosae that covers your stomach cells) or maybe both of them at the same time. If there's isn't enough protection from the acid, then this one is bound to go over your cells, and destroy, creating 'holes' in your own stomach from which you might lose some blood. Also if this manages to get pass to your intestines, it may attack those cells too, which might end in more blood loss. Now, consider the fact that being a woman implies that aproximately during one week of the month you're constantly losing blood due to the menstrual cycle. This means that not only are you losing blood from your regular menstruation but also you have to add any blood lost in your stomach. If a body loses too much blood then it goes under a state of 'anemia'. Now a person with 'anemia' has the some symptoms you've mentioned: tiresome, headaches and nauseas. Also since you're already with gastritis you might as well have gastrical pain in that area. But you say you've had your gastritis since you were 13, so why would it appear now? Well maybe because of late you have too much stress from classes, emotional problems or maybe you have an infection (there is a bacteria Helicobacter pylori that lives in all of us in our stomachs, and helps with food degradation, but when given a chance, attacks stomach; this one is the most common infection for gastritis infections). If you're taking medicine for gastritis, well you should check what side effects it might have, because although it might not leave you tired, it might have an effect in your inmunological system, which might leave you without defenses from Helicobacter pylori. In any case, since I don't really know what other symptoms you might have this is the best explanation I can come up with for your problem. This are questions you should take into notice (and since some of this questions may be a bit personal I'm just naming them, no need to reply to them): When does your headache start? After stomachaches? Before meals, after meals? When do stomachaches start? Does the pain start in one point and then move to another point in your abdomen? Do you feel dizzy constantly? What kind of medicines are you taking? In the last few months, have you eaten anything really different from what you regularly eat? Do you eat spicy foods or drink spicy drinks (like coffee or any of it's derivatives) or even use spice sauce n your foods? When having a cut, does it take too much time before the wound coagulates? I'm making the questions based on the fact that I think that the blood loss might be more than normal (and really not healthy) and that's what I'm leaning on to most. Since I don't know more information that could be helpful, and it's not my place to know it, I'm not going to ask you more 'relevant' things (which you might be uncomfortable answering). This was all my guess, so my recommendation would be to get checked by a doctor, since you may or may not have a problem (I have a girl in my class who sleeps even during class and is still tired, and apparently it's normal in her life) and I may be pretty way off in my ideas.

Wow, lots of reading 3:
^_^ I'm too lazy to quote all that so I'll try to sum it up the best I can. I've been seeing a doctor frequently firste because of my gastritis and then because of my headache. We've taken all the tests possible except for x-raying my head. He doesn't know what's causing my headache so we've kinda given up >_> My headache starts 5 minutes after I've woken up, before meals obviously. I have been taking 3 different meds for my gastritis but none have worked for long. The first ones made it better for a year but then it came back again. The second ones lowered my blood pressure from 120/80 to 100/70 so I stopped taking them (they also made my throat sore) Now I'm taking "Link" when the stomachache starts and they actually help most of the time ^_^ I also take "Minerals" containing the vitamines everyone needs and: Iron, Copper, Zink, Molybden, Jod, Mangan, Chrome and Selen. Nowadays I also have to take painkillers every morning in order to focus in school. This morning I didn't and felt like shit. I drink one mug (two cups) of coffee every morning (if I don't getting ready for school takes twice the time >_<). I also drink a mug in the afternoon but it doesn't really help much. When having a cut, does it take too much time before the wound coagulates?
I haven't noticed, let me try *slits wrists* lawl, jk <_< And I'm not on my period right now, as stated in another topic XD I had my first period when I was 13-14 so I guess that's when my puberty started? I don't smoke very often at all and I only drink on weekends sometimes.
Low blood pressure = slow heartbeats?? Btw, I don't know if I really have asthma, it's just hard to breathe and it feels as if I have to breathe faster and deeper in order to relax. I'm quite stressed mostly because of that school started last week and I hate school more than anything. It's not that I'm not good at learning stuff and I think it's too hard. I just think it's extremely boring, a waste of time and I don't like large groups of people in small classrooms >_< K, that's all I think. Thanks |
